Cameroon plans to invest quite a bit in revamping its power grid. According to the Minister of Water and Energy, Basile Atangana Kouna, the government will have spent FCfa 800 billion on the power grid update program for the period covering 2016 to 2022.
The management of the program was given to the Société Nationale de Transport D’Electricité (Sonatrel – National Power Grid Company). The minister said that the government had been successful in its approach to international lenders for financing the project; with the World Bank’s Board of Directors approving $325 million in financing for a section of the power grid project. The agreements for the financing from the World Bank are expected to be signed in the near future.
