Benin has mobilized an estimated $815 million to finance its energy sector, attracting interest from several international groups looking to invest in the country over the past few months.
The country is also receiving over $26 million in budget support from the AfDB to support its electricity sub-sector. This financing will provide 310 MW of additional temporary capacity, as well as a 335 MW increase in the country’s installed energy capacity.
One of the first steps to be taken to achieve this objective will be to provide fuel for 150 MW generating units leased from independent energy producers.
Guarantees will also be made to allow the country to import 60 MW of energy from Nigeria.
